The commitment with the security of our institution is demonstrated by the creation of tools that improve our quality of coexistence. On August 14, 2014, a professor was stabbed by an offender, leaving him at the brink of death. This fact demonstrated the need of a mechanism by which people can communicate their emergency to the community without delay.

Following this terrible event, the Student Council and the Administrative Offices sought out solutions. Under the endorsement of these entities, co-founders Joel R. Corporán, Jean C. Méndez and Josué A. Santana developed Sentinel, an application for emergency alerts within the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus. Sentinel aims to establish an efficient and reliable immediate reaction system that mobilizes officers and the campus community to resolve critical events.

El compromiso con la seguridad de nuestra institución se demuestra mediante la concepción de herramientas que mejoran el ambiente de sana convivencia. El 14 de agosto de 2014, un profesor fue apuñalado por un agresor, dejando al profesor moribundo. Este hecho demostró la necesidad de un mecanismo por el cual las personas puedan notificar a la comunidad universitaria de una emergencia sin demora.

Tras este evento inaudito, el Consejo de Estudiantes y el Decanato de Administración se dieron a la tarea de buscar soluciones. Bajo el respaldo de estas entidades, los co-fundadores Joel R. Corporán, Jean C. Méndez y Josué A. Santana desarrollaron Sentinel, una aplicación de alertas de emergencias para el Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez. Sentinel procura establecer un sistema de reacción inmediata eficaz y fidedigno que movilice a los oficiales y a la comunidad a atender situaciones críticas.
